Grubengold: sustainable transformation in action

February 16, 2026

Grubengold supports companies in implementing sustainability strategically and practically – from decarbonization and reporting to change management. More than twenty consultants work to shape transformation holistically, making the economy future-proof through practical solutions.

Why Grubengold became a B Corp – and why recertification matters

From the outset, it was clear: Grubengold not only wanted to provide consulting services but also set standards itself. B Corp certification was a logical step on this path. The company was first certified in 2022 – just two years after its founding. In 2025, the successful recertification followed, demonstrating that Grubengold consistently leads by example in its own transformation.

“The recertification reflects our own development over the past three years,” says Matthias Hoffmann, founder and CEO. “It not only confirms our ongoing commitment but has also significantly sharpened our vision. For us, B Corp is a clear statement: ‘We are ready to further expand our role as a prototype for sustainable transformation.’”

What has changed since the first certification?

Since its initial certification, Grubengold has strengthened its impact in three dimensions.

  1. Transforming the economy – through projects that support customers in sustainable transformation.
  2. Employee well-being and development – with a focus on health, further education and participation.
  3. Grubengold as a prototype – as an example of sustainable management in one’s own actions.

For Grubengold, the B Corp process primarily served as an impetus to clarify working methods and values. Many existing practices were formalized during the initial certification, thus securing them for the long term – for example, in the form of ethics and CSR guidelines or an expanded organizational framework. This has ensured that principles that were previously implicit are now structurally embedded, such as employee benefits (for example, through new support programs for employees in crisis situations (“Goldstücke” fund)), whistleblowing, and sustainability reporting.

Another key outcome: a clear decision-making process for selecting clients and partners. This provides orientation within the team and strengthens the company’s external positioning. Grubengold has focused its consulting services more strongly on sustainability and expanded its transformative projects. Crucially, internal impact measurement is conducted after each project and is systematically improved.

B Corp as a network – and as a compass

Grubengold emphasizes the value of exchange within the B Corp community. Whether at events, bilaterally, or in community calls – the shared goal of making business fairer creates connections and provides guidance.

“The recertification reflects our own development. It confirms our commitment – and shows where we are focusing our efforts to continue moving forward as a prototype of sustainable transformation.”

What other companies can learn from Grubengold

Two certification rounds yielded three clear recommendations:

    1. Leveraging Synergies: < 0 > Linking B Impact Assessment and Sustainability Reporting (e.g., according to VSME) creates clear synergies. Many data points overlap – considering both processes in parallel saves time and improves data quality.
    2. Distribute responsibility: A dedicated, interdisciplinary team is more effective than individual responsibility. The internal Sustainability Circle It is responsible for all certifications and pools expertise. This has contributed to a structured and resource-efficient process.
    3. Plan your time realistically: < 0 >Recertification is extensive – buffer times and a clear roadmap are crucial.

Looking ahead

Grubengold’s current sustainability strategy runs until the end of 2026. This year, the company will set the course for the next phase – with the aim of initiating even more transformative change within the company and the economy.

Or, as the team puts it: “We want to show that real transformation is possible – if you approach it consistently, systematically and together.”

On Transitions, Interdependence, and the Path Ahead: A Message from Andrew Green

February 04, 2026

By Andrew Green, Country Manager, B Lab Germany

As we begin 2026, many of us are taking time to consider what the year ahead will ask of us—whether as companies, teams, or as individuals. At this moment, I find myself in the last of these cohorts. After a period of development and growth, both professionally and personally, I’ve made the decision to plan this year differently and step back, take time for my health and family, and create space to reflect on what comes next.
